Meet Riverland Employee Gavin Takawira!


Gavin TakawiraGavin Takawira is an ​​IT Analyst at Riverland Bank. Gavin is fairly new to banking, but he has been doing Information Technology-related work for over eight years. He is continuously learning to improve and develop his skills. Gavin is a father to two amazing girls, and he and his wife are expecting a son soon! Q. What do you like best about working at Riverland?

A. I love the work culture. Our team is made up of hardworking and intelligent individuals who are always happy to assist and support each other.

Q. What do you like to do in your free time for fun?

A. I enjoy spending time with my family. I like camping, duck hunting, and boating. I also enjoy watching soccer. (Go Chelsea!!)

Q. What is your favorite book or movie?

A. My favorite book series right now is Elephant & Piggie.

Q. In what ways are you involved in the community?

A. I’m always ready to help my senior neighbors. This includes being their personal IT guy, carrying groceries, and shoveling their driveways.

Q. What is a cause or topic you are passionate or curious about?

A. I am working on ways to increase access to IT resources (hardware and knowledge) to communities that cannot afford computers or have limited access to the internet. I’m doing this by refurbishing and donating old laptops and providing offline resources.

Q. What is your favorite quote?

A. “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.” This is an old southern African quote that directly translates to “A person is a person through (other) persons.” It speaks to the importance of giving back to the community.

Q. How do you positively contribute to customers’ experience at Riverland?

A. By ensuring that our IT systems help facilitate quick, secure, and reliable support to our customers.

Q. Anything else you’d like to share about yourself?

A. I once took part in a Hot Chip Challenge at a local restaurant. I won and regretted it.
