When Breakthrough Twin Cities needed a banking partner that could go beyond transactions and truly understand the needs of a mission-driven nonprofit, they found exactly that in Riverland Bank.

Led by Executive Director Josh Reimnitz, Breakthrough Twin Cities supports under-resourced students on their path to college through academic enrichment, mentorship, and leadership development. After years of unpredictable funding, and navigating the challenges of virtual programming during COVID-19, the organization needed a bank that would offer both financial security and a personal relationship. That’s when they made the switch to Riverland from a large commercial bank.

The transition to Riverland Bank came through a recommendation from Breakthrough’s financial services provider, who had worked with Riverland for another education nonprofit. Right away, the difference was clear.

“We’ve enjoyed a high level of service and attentiveness with Riverland,” says Reimnitz. “The team genuinely cares about our work and has found ways to engage with our mission on top of supporting our financial goals.”

With Riverland’s help, Breakthrough gained access to competitive interest rates, accessible financial products, and most importantly, a sweep account to safeguard assets over the FDIC-insured limit. “That was a big load off our minds,” Josh states, “and it helped our finance committee feel more secure.”

What sets Riverland apart, according to Reimnitz, is its proactive approach to relationship building. Team members Brett and Alyssa have gone beyond the banking basics: attending career days, volunteering at Saturday programming, participating in school supply drives, and simply showing up for the organization and its students.

“They’re easy to work with, and they genuinely want to help you accomplish your goals. A lot of banks say they support the community – but Riverland actually shows up.”

Breakthrough Twin Cities is celebrating 20 years of empowering students across the Twin Cities metro. Their mission is to prepare under-resourced students for college success while inspiring the next generation of educators. With Riverland’s ongoing support, they’re continuing to expand that mission, one student at a time.
